Great Artists: from Giotto to Turner Details

Great Artists takes its readers on a journey through the history of Western Art - from the end of the thirteenth century when Giotto broke with the conventions of the medieval art, and initiated many of the central concerns of the Italian Renaissance, to the transcended genius of Turner, who transformed the art of his age and set the stage for the modern era of painting.Along the way, the book presents the life and work of such diverse artists as Michelangelo, Rubens, Rembrandt, Velazquez, Vermeer and El Greco, among others. The book wrestles with the much-derided idea of 'greatness' in art and does so by recourse to showing just how significant these artists were in changing the way in which the world was represented and seen - both by their contemporaries and posterity.

Reviews

The text is moderately interesting but the complete lack of artwork destroys its value in the kindle edition. Two words
