Art Nouveau: 50 Works Of Art You Should Know (50 You Should Know) Details

A new edition to Prestel’s popular “50s” series, this collection of the finest examples of Art Nouveau shows how the movement impacted every artistic discipline. The heyday of the Art Nouveau style was relatively short, spanning the decades immediately before and after 1900.However it was a tremendously important period, not onlyfor its radical shift away from the academic and romanticmovements of the late 19th century, but also for its embraceof nature and natural forms. This authoritative, accessible, andbeautifully illustrated book explores fifty of the most importantworks of the Art Nouveau style. From Mackmurdo’s jacketdesign of Christopher Wren’s City Churches to Sykes’ sculpture,The Spirit of Ecstasy, each work is presented in double-pagespreads that chronologically trace Art Nouveau’s developmentand breadth―from architecture, Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, andgraphic arts, Toulouse-Lautrec’s poster advertising the DivanJaponais, to home décor, lamps by Tiffany and Daum Frères, and painting, Munch’s Madonnas and Walter Crane’s Neptune’sHorses. Each entry includes a full-page illustration and conciseexplanatory texts. An introductory essay on the history andlegacy of Art Nouveau, along with brief biographies of theartists featured in the book, make this a comprehensive yetcompact reference work.

Reviews

The book is beautiful but I specifically ordered a hardback book for my coffee table and I got a paperback. It is a cardboard cover so I guess they thought they could call that hard cover. That is not acceptable at all!
